Product certifications:
For over 30 years the core business of Iraqi Lifts Institute has been
the certification of lifts. The checking procedures and reporting
systems are based on experience with millions of certifications. Both
first time certifications and periodic inspections are performed to the
highest quality standards and are always done with the objective of
guaranteeing maximum safety.
The Lift Directive describes specific requirements for the inspection
and certification of lifts before they can be put into service. In order
to ensure compliance with the Directive, a lift is subject to one of
three basic conformity procedures.
lf a company has no formal quality assurance system, Iraqi Lifts
Institute, as a Notified Body, will perform a unit verification. For
this, the installer has to submit a complete technical dossier which
will be the basis for the inspection and certification. When a NoBo has
performed an EC type-examination a lift may be installed and tested as a
"model" type lift, but only if the installer has an ISO 9002 quality
assurance system in operation, assessed and surveyed by a NoBo, such as
Iraqi Lifts Institute.
For companies wishing to manufacture, install and test any type of lift,
Iraqi Lifts Institute can perform and keep under surveillance a full iS0
9001 Quality Assurance system assessment.

EC
Type-Examinations:
The basis for one of the conformity procedures within the framework of
the Lift Directive is the EC type-examination of a "model" type lift.
Although the Lift Directive provides greater design freedom for the
manufacturer because it is possible to opt for alternatives to the
harmonized European standards, compliance with fundamental health and
safety requirements must be demonstrated by a risk analysis and
evaluation.
Iraqi Lifts Institute has also gained a wealth of experience in the area
of EC type-examinations. The time required for, and costs related to EC
type-examinations can vary considerably. The determining factors are, on
the one hand, the complexity of the design, and the completeness and
accuracy of the technical dossier on the other.
The time required for examining the risk analysis and evaluation is an
important cost factor. All too frequently the solution which is chosen
is not as safe as is technically possible. For example: precautionary
measures are taken in cases where the danger could have been eliminated
completely by a simple design change.
When a lift manufacturer has carried out an accurate risk analysis, the
expertise of Iraqi Lifts Institute ensures that the EC type-examination
is performed efficiently and effectively within the agreed time frame.
Training courses and workshops:
Since many years, Iraqi Lifts Institute has organized several workshops
and seminars for representatives from the lift industry. During these
presentations, the objectives, requirements and practical consequences
of the Lift Directive were discussed in great detail, and hundreds of
questions were answered.
Our practical experience gained at lift certifications, as well as at
the workshops and seminars we organize, form the basis of a series of
training courses which Iraqi Lifts Institute offers to lift
manufacturers, installers and consultants worldwide. Both standard and
tailor-made courses are available. Subjects covered include the
background to and application of the Lift Directive, risk analysis,
final inspection procedures, conformity assessments, final inspection
checklists and general lift safety requirements.
